I’m working in a company, some Silicon Valley place where the high-ranking men wear silver-gray tailored suits that they wear open as if there’s nothing hiding behind their back (which they keep covered).
The president of the company wants me to find his checks so he can write one out to meet a schedule. I go look for them. He tells me that I won’t find them until I do my work, clear a pile of boxes from my desk. The work goes fast and I distribute the boxes quickly. I find the box with the checks in it and I find myself delaying. I’ve got until noon. There’s time enough.

A and T inadvertently did the cruelest thing I think a person can do to a person without cutting or shooting them. They saw me as another person, T’s dead brother who’d killed himself I don’t know how many years before.
