This is one of those “movie dreams” where I am not an actual character, but watching. A secret agent has forgotten who he is. He’s on an airplane flying across Asia with another fellow who thinks that the secret agent is just a goof. Where are we? the agent asks. “Over Mongolia.” They look out the window at a desert landscape. “Those trees look like Joshua Trees,” the agent says. The scene flips to a conference room in Washington where a group of staffers discuss what is happening. The agent has lost his memory. The staffers doubt that anyone will ever be able to give it back to him because they’ve washed it all. “He’s about to go through Mongolian customs,” someone says. Then “He’s gone through Mongolian customs. That was fast. Nothing happened like we thought it would.” Back to the plane. There’s a bump and the agent suddenly regains his memory. He’s no longer a goof, but a suave fellow named Charles. And the guy who has been minding him this whole time suddenly becomes the goof. Charles orders him to go to the back of the plane. They get into a rocket car as the plane is taking off for China and fly away. Charles is again in control.
