Holy Jim Canyon 5

holyjim20.jpg The crosses weren’t, until today, intentional. They just came out that way when I did the layout. Today, however, in honor of the provocative beatification of Cussin’ Jim Smith, I laid out a cross deliberately.

I’m always looking for the unusual when I go for a walk. Canyon bottoms present many fine opportunities. Water and landslides cut stones for rolling. Stream lapidary often rivals that done in a canister. And I am always willing to stop for a good tree root unearthed by high waters.

As always, click on the image.

It’s been a hard day here. These pictures speak to my frazzled state — a jerk in my writing group who has been hounding me in various ways wrote a story with an unflattering portrayal of me. “Don’t worry,” he said. “Remember this is just fiction.” Lampreys like that should be tossed in the Sacramento River, except that here in California fishermen are required by law to kill them upon landing them. I oppose capital punishment. after all.

It’s always interesting to watch a fool lay himself out on a cross of his own devising and hammer the nails in place.

I will recover.
