Received the following bits of news from Elspeth at Casa de los Amigos:
Our friends and Friends have returned to their home in Colima where they are now picking up all the things on the floor and putting the garage door back on and other things. Nothing serious except for being part of a real tragedy and as the paper says this morning, these things always hit the poor the hardest because of the flimsy construction of their homes and in this case, as in Guatemala in the 70s, the homes made of adobe brick which are big and heavy and usually without any holding rods or whatever you call them.
The Friends, Von and Ruth Peacock, responded to my query saying they would check out with their neighbor who is in charge of public school and with others to see if there is a place for donations and then we can write Pasadena and Orange Grove. They could receive direct giros in their bank account of get money through Orange Grove and the Casa for those who like to be sure it is using the Quaker circuit. I think we might be able to do something worthwhile although small.
You may continue to send donations earmarked for Casa de los Amigos through Orange Grove Friends Meeting as I indicated earlier.
Casa de los Amigos is a Quaker Hostel and House of Worship located in Mexico City.
