A Sensible Way to Help Americans

Posted on March 24, 2003 in Appeals and Goodwill War

The grandstanding of some bloggers who are making care packages to send off to soldiers is misplaced. I can imagine the pain in some soldiers as they think of the families scraping by back at home while they eat the candy that some are sending them.

For those wanting to help Americans affected by this war, I suggest:

  • Donations to the local food bank
  • Participation in Project SHARE
  • Spreading the word about these programs.
  • Providing rides to military families who need to go to the food bank or to the doctor. Respecting their confidentiality.
  • Direct support to such families in the form of decent food, tickets to movies, etc.

Specifically, I will make donations to the local food bank and earmarked specifically for strapped military families. I am available to drive any military family in southern Orange County, California, to the local food bank or to the local Project SHARE gathering when it happens. (Send me email.) No politics on the ride.
