Stingy is the Word

square144.gifWhen there is an opportunity to demonstrate our superior firepower, the United States stands primed to burn billions. When it comes to relief from a natural disaster, it falls short.

Thirty five million dollars is the total amount the United States has committed to tsunami relief. My country — which continues to spend much more in the continuing unnnatural disaster that is Iraq — cannot see that this amount is nothing.

Colin Powell’s tantrum at UN Disaster Relief coordinator Jan Egeland’s remarks about “stingy” rich nations is just more of the same from the Bush Usurper maladministration. The most appropriate response for the foreign policy of the last four years is a flat out apology. But don’t look for that soon. The nation will fall apart before that happens.

When you have the money to work good, but choose instead to wreak destruction or amass even more wealth for yourself, stingy is the very word to apply.
