Overheard on Undernet #political

Posted on November 23, 2003 in IRC/Chat

[Warpster] I went to a yacht launching party for a very wealthy and famous philanthropist once, had just realized I could never touch alcohol again, asked for a ginger ale at the bar. I heard a voice “Jesus #)($)&$@# Christ, lady, it’s an open bar!” and looked up to see the great man, himself. I said the gingerale would do nicely, thanks, and walked off realizing there was NO connection between money and class

Then there is this gem:

[Aero`] I was listening to the radio on my way home some lady called in … said she was driving behind someone with a honl if you love jesus bumper sticker on their car … she honked and the car in front shot her the finger lol

Can you imagine the driver in front thinking “Damn! Every time I go out for a drive, people honk at me even if I am doing nothing wrong!”

A Comment Worth Looking At

Posted on November 23, 2003 in Censorship Journalists & Pundits Pointers War

A new comment on an old article is worth looking at: War photographer Jon Mills on “Biased Impartiality“:

Many photographers like myself risk their lives to show you the consequences when men go to war. Without us I believe the world would be a more dangerous place for everyone.

For the whole comment, reread the article.

I’m Good!

What I’ve missed in all the discussion about Michael Jackson is reference to his pathetic self-destruction aided and abetted by American attitudes towards people of color.

It’s a nice illustration of the natural poet we have buried in ourselves and the virtue of listening to small children.

Money

Posted on November 21, 2003 in Consuming Thinking

If you collected all the U.S. currency in the world — the quarters, the Susan B. Anthony dollars with their kinky edges, the pennies filed down to the size of dimes for purposes of cheating vendors, the silver certificates held in collections, — I mean every single last cent no mattered if it is warped, bent, half melted, half burnt, or torn in half, you would not have nearly enough to cover the amount of money that is on the books in today’s banks and brokerage houses.

I must say that given the restrictions placed on London demonstrators, the British did pretty good with the turnout.

The word is out: you do not tarnish the legend of St. Francis of Assisi, you do not apply a depilatory to a man who gives most people the warm fuzzies.

Just before a reading

Key to understanding: The last line isn’t meant as it first reads.

Before we even get started

Lee’s saying “Be nice, be nice.”

Not a chance.
