Baghdad Museum Project

I get sick to my stomach when I think of the incompetence and the arrogance that led to the necessity for this.

The State Department has donated $2 million to the cause of recovering the antiquities. (Which could have been saved for a fraction of the cost by posting guards). But will the Justice Department follow through? Will Ashcroft seek warrants to search the houses of the millionaires who are part of the market for these relics? Will George W. Bush cover for his friends by issuing pardons?

Alas, I fear that many Iraqi relics will suffer the fate of the Elgin Marbles.
