I promised new photographs and I have delivered them.
Whiting Ranch Wilderness begins five minutes from the bottom of the stairs leading up to my condo. It’s useless land as far as the developers are concerned: they seized all the flatland that they could find and left a few fingers of canyon bottom connected to a hand blistered with badlands and steep hills for the public enjoyment.
We circled Dreaded Hill again. I’m busy behind the scenes looking up the names of plants. The two species pictured today are well known to me: Our Lord’s Candle or Spanish Dagger, which is a species of yucca common in these parts, and Coast Prickly Pear, the cactus with the cantelope flesh blossoms shown above.
