Don’t Crown Kings

Posted on May 29, 2003 in Appeals and Goodwill Liberty

Next week, the FCC plans to vote on allowing media giants to control everything we see and hear. This is a dire move against American freedom and I urge all true patriots to read about what they can do at Acts of Conscience:

Those who claim to hate totalitarianism should consider this: the more centralized our media becomes, the easier it will become for despots, left and right, to seize control. This also holds true for our energy resources.

The great Republican president Theodore Roosevelt understood this: that monopolistic trusts are untrustworthy. To make the best decisions, we must have a variety of views on the airwaves. Private concerns need checks and balances imposed on them as much as government ones. Let us not, in our zeal to limit the power of government, give unlimited power to private owners who, unlike our elected officials, cannot be controlled by our votes.

To hand over unbridled power to private individuals is to effectively crown kings. Our founding fathers opposed the idea of kingship in all its forms. Don’t let Bush undo the ideals of the American Revolution.

I repeat: Don’t crown kings. It’s as unAmerican as you can get.
