Camassia’s blog is host to a discussion about the existence of God. I point it out, in part, to direct you to C’s wisdom on the subject (I thought it cute that she called me an “evangelical agnostic”) and in part to the comments where there’s an interesting example of a blogger who doesn’t seem to understand that winning an argument is not the same as finding the Truth.
Don P. has sought to define his way to victory with perfectly self-centered and idiosyncratic versions of the meaning of “atheism” and “hope”. I’m not interested in “winning this one”: it gets to be too much like attending debates on evolution vs. creationism where the object seems to be to pack and please the crowd. Creationists often win such arguments, but they are far far far from the truth. Don P. — a peculiar type who hates Faith and hates Agnostics but doesn’t want to be paired with the Fundamentalists he resembles in everything except a belief in God — prefers to live in a world where the volume of his declarations make him right.
He’s welcome to his planet, it’s tiny volcanos, and the storm system he kicks up whenever he gets to pacing over the wrongs he imagines committed against his superior intellect.
There’s a time to pull out of an argument and I am doing it here. Don P. certainly isn’t exposing any new truthes and he’s a master of old techniques of obfuscation.
