Note: This is part of a series based on exercises from A Writer’s Book of Days. It’s something of a rebellion against the Friday Five and similar tupperware content memes.
Today’s topic: It was that kind of day.
The heat of the sky’s sun and of my inner sun broiled me thoroughly today. The two weather systems conspired to irritate me and confine me to my bedroom where I have two fans running at right angles to each other constantly. I did not hold my temper well and I did not get much rest. The roofers pinged the Spanish tile roofs in places but otherwise I heard none of the thunder that they promised in the flyer which was circulated yesterday. I slept on a mixture of benadryl and xanax: when I woke up, it was just past three in the afternoon.
My neighbor across the street found it so hot in her upstairs condominium that she took her cell phone out to the car and did her business from there. She opened all the doors of her white carriage and freely negotiated with a contractor and then chatted with a friend.
