Grrrrrrls vs. Women

Burningbird and Halley are going toe to toe again. This is getting repetitive, but I’m on Shelley’s side when the issue is “the old feminism” vs. “the new girlism”:

Well, isn’t that just precious — today’s Alpha Male doesn’t mind when the little woman becomes a Real Time Lawyer. Maybe the truth is he doesn’t seem to mind, but he’s really frustrated; so he spends 10,000 to shoot a naked woman, as she runs like an animal from paintball guns that shoot the pellots at 200MPH.

(I also have to wonder what lesbians think of Halley’s posts — after all, they don’t love men, not in the way that Halley uses the term. Perhaps they don’t count in this new ‘girlism’ thing. Lucky them.)

Halley’s girlism is just that, for girls only. Cute babes with nice little bods who love to baby talk their Alpha Male, kicking a bad guy and presenting a legal brief by day, sex kittens by night. The rest of us need not apply.

This incindiery piece got me running over to see the review of Charlie’s Angels 2 and Legally Blonde 2 at Halley’s Comment. I know even mentioning the name of another blogger has brought me approbation even when the comments have been positive or neutral, but I have to say that Shelley’s right, Halley’s defense of girlism is shallow:

In both movies, the younger women call on a network of their girlfriends to save the day. In both movies the older feminist woman falters by turning her back on her friends and colleagues. If Girlism is about anything, it’s about women getting their power from loving their women friends and loving men.

Yes, Shelley, I too see the word “SELL-OUT” blazing from that rapturous conclusion.

It’s funny, but not too many weeks ago this was the woman who declared the upcoming end of marriage. It was Shelley, the “tired old feminist”, and myself who defended the institution (see here). Now Halley is saying that “only in a man’s love is a woman made full”?

The new girls sound like a crowd that any decent man would do well to steer well away from! From the description, they are materialist, they run in herds, they attack people who are different from them, they have no sense of what was done by their forebears to secure them the freedom they now have, they think that they “did it all themselves”, and they love jerks who — long after the credits roll — they end up divorcing because they had no sense in the first place!

I’ll take my crusty old feminists and dyke friends over these any day!
