Note: This is part of a series based on exercises from A Writer’s Book of Days. It’s something of a rebellion against the Friday Five and similar tupperware content memes.
Today’s topic: “I was listening to something I heard before.”
That would have to be “One is the loneliest number”, punching its repeated note, reiterating its theme. Every time I have heard that song, whether I have been driving somewhere on my own or been in the company of a movie theater crowd watching Magnolia, it has reminded me that as far as I can see for certain, there is only this self that thinks. The rest of you I take on the evidence of my senses and, where that falls short, on personal faith.
Want to participate? First either get yourself a copy of A Writer’s Book of Days by Judy Reeves or read these guidelines. Then either check in to see what the prompt for the day is or read along in the book.
Tomorrow’ topic/prompt: Someone is calling your name.
