….but this race is being held in California for Californians. What are you doing campaigning in New York City? Or have we been secretly annexed?

What he did while he was there, turns out to be a matter for secrecy. He met with Governor Michael Pataki and collected some money for his campaign. His press secretary, on the other hand, told journalists a different story:

Schwarzenegger’s campaign did not list the event (or a brief stop at a birthday party at a lower Manhattan community center) on its public schedule. Before the lunch, press secretary Karen Hanretty had said that Schwarzenegger would not meet donors or political figures. Asked about Pataki and the aides, she said that she knew of no event and that there was no “official” fund-raiser on Schwarzenegger’s calendar.

A lie — a big one — has been revealed. Look for more in the coming days.
