Jesus and Miracles

Posted on September 8, 2003 in Myths & Mysticism

Lynn told me that until the fifth century AD, the idea that we should believe in Jesus’s divinity because he performed miracles was heresy. What were important to the early Christian fathers weren’t the superhuman aspects of Christ’s life but the Word — the ideas such as those contained in the Sermon of the Mount.

Two thousand years after the life of Christ, Heresy is mainstream. Many Christians declare or reason de factoly that if it were not for the miracles, Christ would not be worth following. This comic book Christianity explains the heresy of our age which equates Christianity with the lethal pyrotechnic displays of the military in Iraq and the flag-enshrouded nationalism rather than the Sermon on the Mount and the sacrifice of Christ’s person on Calvary.
