Frostless at Midnight

Posted on September 22, 2003 in Book of Days Daily Life Weather

Note: This is part of a series based on exercises from A Writer’s Book of Days. It’s something of a rebellion against the Friday Five and similar tupperware content memes.

Today’s topic: “In the blue night frost haze….” (after Gary Snyder)

Blue? This night is orange. The cop cars at John Wayne Orange County Airport reflected the bland orange mocha lamp shine. The burning metropolis jumped up and left its singe in the sky. Only the moon, the Pacific Ocean which I beheld as I drove from Aliso Viejo to Irvine, and a few yellow stars kept their cool. I wanted to embrace them and bring their ice close to me.

Want to participate? First either get yourself a copy of A Writer’s Book of Days by Judy Reeves or read these guidelines. Then either check in to see what the prompt for the day is or read along in the book.

Tomorrow’ topic/prompt: Write about a time someone surprised you.
