Note: This is part of a series based on exercises from A Writer’s Book of Days. It’s something of a rebellion against the Friday Five and similar tupperware content memes.
Today’s topic: Write about a time someone surprised you.
My poor wife. I picked her up at the airport last night, still not feeling well. Because I was a little dizzy from all the Ventolin in my lungs and fluid in my ear, I had her drive home. Enroute she asked me “Notice anything different?”
The question every husband dreads, especially when he’s feeling unwell.
“No. What’s different?”
“I got a new outfit. Jean bought it for me.”
I nodded clumsily as she sought the Lake Forest Avenue exit. I was tired, too tired to see. I just wanted to go home.
Want to participate? First either get yourself a copy of A Writer’s Book of Days by Judy Reeves or read these guidelines. Then either check in to see what the prompt for the day is or read along in the book.
Tomorrow’ topic/prompt: Write about a door key.
