Compassionate Conservatism? Ha!

Conservatives say that one reason why they support bans on illegal immigration is that they want to give the jobs to Americans “living on the dole”.

Yes, I am sure that a recently laid off industrial worker making $35,000 a year (the supposed family average for the United States — poverty level for a family of four living in metropolitan California) is going to jump at the chance to pick grapes and lettuce for much less.

What will happen, of course, is that food and fast food prices will go up because of higher wages, people will stop buying these commodities, the businesses will close down and/or lay off workers, and the people the conservatives purport to want to give jobs will be back on the dole — if there is one.

See how compassionate this conservative politics is? First, they want to “help” Latinos coming over the border by shutting it down so that they will stage a bloody revolution in Mexico. Second, they want people who are waiting for jobs that suit their skills and abilities to go to work now at a lower wage than what they are used to. Of course, these same conservatives intend to make no such sacrifices themselves. The blood and the honor must be spent by others.

I suspect that the real reason why white people support caps on immigration is for all their supposed stupidity, Latinos are onto the lies about tax cuts and trickle down. White people believe them and vote with the conservatives. The real threat that Latinos pose is the undermining of conservative power. That’s why they want this group out of American politics.
