Note: This is part of a series based on exercises from A Writer’s Book of Days. It’s something of a rebellion against the Friday Five and similar tupperware content memes.
Today’s topic: : Write about a time the lights went out.
When the lights go out here, I sit staring at the computer for a moment. My reaction is nothing like having it crash for no reason with all lamps blazing and the overhead fan swirling. When that happens, I leap to my feet and punch the air as if the ceiling were a rubber face. If the power fails, I remain in the chair, seated. “There’s nothing I can do about this,” I mutter. I get up and go to bed or, if it is daylight, read a book.
I can forgive the electrical company and I can forgive thunderstorms, but when this computer of mine fails me, that’s personal!
Want to participate? First either get yourself a copy of A Writer’s Book of Days by Judy Reeves or read these guidelines. Then either check in to see what the prompt for the day is or read along in the book.
Tomorrow’ topic/prompt: Write about a time you did something out of superstition.
