As the recall campaign comes to a close, I must admit that I am personally not so concerned about Ahnold as I am about those who support him. Arnold’s nothing but a body-builder with an anorexic wife who dreams of the political heights achieved by her Kennedy cousins. In any other election, he would be out before the primaries. In this one, however, he has his only chance.
What scares me about those who support him is how they repeatedly look the other way when Arnold is caught lying, covering up, or molesting. It’s the molesting part that hits home. I find myself wondering if I can leave my wife safely with those friends of mine who support him. No, I don’t think they would molest her, but what would they do if someone else tried while I was gone? Would they wimp out? Would they smile and declare it an honor if it were a big Hollywood movie star?
Arnold’s candidacy is thus undermining my faith in certain other people. Will they stand up to wrong doing, will they ignore it, will they run away, or will they celebrate it? I have my doubts. If they can’t see that Arnold’s not a good candidate, how can I trust their judgement in other affairs?
My friend, Andrea the Shameless Agitator, puts it best: “get a life, and get a fucking clue, for crying out loud!”
It’s the best slogan of the whole anti-recall campaign.
