The Great White Spark

Posted on October 16, 2003 in Site News

The problem with the computer is fixed. When we came home on Monday, we moved the bags into the house. While Lynn parked the truck so that there would be no reprise of our vacation eve visit to the impound lot, I skipped back to the office to begin the email download. I switched the surge protector on. A white spark the size of my fist appeared at the back of the CPU tower. The accompanying nasal buzz and the faint blue scent of ozone told me that the power supply had given up the ghost.

Pavillions have a power supply that’s not much bigger than a pair of mini-speakers. We hunted at all the best stores, including the one where we bought it. In the end, we ordered the part from HP. It arrived this afternoon and Lynn installed it.

Which means we are off the laptop we’ve been using for the last couple of days and back on our usual machine. You will start to see my hike reports and photos in the next few days.

Now we’re really home.
