Capitol Reef 16

Still twisting the mule here. These closeups came from a narrow portion of Upper Muley Twist Canyon, just after the staggering sight of a great arch and just before the staggering sight of another one.

I look at formations such as this and I can see the wind laying down each grain of sand; the rain seeping in and roiling the depths; and the faults overturning the landscape and pointing these strata in new directions.

Think of these things and be in awe.

This gallery was photographed in Upper Muley Twist Canyon on our way to Saddle Arch. This day is described here.
