On our way home from Utah, we stopped off at Zzyzyx, the home of the California Desert Studies Center at the western edge of the Mojave National Preserve.
Zzyzyx has a long history as a roadside stop and an oasis where a cultist set up a spa for the Hollywood elite. There’s some interesting scenery on the horizon, but as I say in my Local Hikes trail report, “this is barely worth a picnic sandwich.”
The vacation series wraps up tomorrow.
