I think the Toronto Star’s Antonia Zerbisias states the case for Sharon Smith well:
….a former Houston city councillor, appropriately named Nipper Kettle, is calling for her resignation, getting his 15 minutes on everything from NPR to MSNBC.
“In my opinion, it shows total disrespect for the people she represents and the office she holds,” he told the local newspaper Houston Today. “It’s kind of like slapping all of the voters in the face.”
But only if they stick their noses where they don’t belong, bub.
….it’s about exploitation and degradation. A kind of get-thee-to-thy-place-woman! On your back or on your knees. In the bedroom or in the kitchen. Just not in the mayor’s office. Or the prosecutor’s chair (O.J. trial mistress Marcia Clark, whose topless photos were publicized.) Or wherever.
Fortunately, Saddam Hussein was captured yesterday, so newspapers from Calgary to Capetown have dropped the story. Still one must ask why the nude photo was the issue rather than the theft? Perhaps it has something to do with the the finding that men can’t think straight when they gaze upon an attractive woman? It doesn’t say much for Old Nipper’s ability to face a crisis if he loses it and points at the victim where nudity is involved.
It’s clear to me who is the the overly emotional seeker after fame here. It’s not Sharon Smith.
What was in those briefing folders when Bush sent our troops into Iraq?
