We’re fine.
They reported that the “entire planet rang like a bell“, but we did not feel a thing. Someone made a derogatory comment about California and today’s earthquake in a chat room: that was the first either Lynn or I heard of it.
News agencies, bored by today’s terror alert, seized on this slightly more meaningful event that killed two people. Reuters overplayed the effects of the Hector Mine earthquake — which I felt while chatting to a friend — as having “crashed” through California. Nothing fell here in Trabuco Canyon. I woke my wife up to get in a door. Then we laughed about how my friend in New York panicked.
I guess I must have been napping when today’s tremblor brought down a cheap belltower in Paso Robles and raised the altitude of the surrounding hills by a foot. 6.5 doesn’t faze real Californians unless they happen to be contractors who ignored building codes or local inspectors who took bribes.

Yule discovered that this story ran in the Oakland Tribune eight hours before the Cambria Quake.
I predicted this event myself. Over dinner with Lynn, unfortunately, but alas there is no record. So, to prove to you my prowess as a psychic, I shall state that within the next seven to ten days there shall be a seismic event exceeding 6.0 in magnitude somewhere in the world.
You will see that this comes to pass. Mark my words and the time.
