Judy Dean finally got on the campaign trail to talk about her marriage.
What gets me is that this was required of her. People seem to think that they’re electing a couple, mere figureheads. The word was out that Iowa voters liked Mr. and Mrs. Kerry because, as a couple, they looked “presidential”.
We’re not electing the wives. The last and only woman candidate, Carol Moseley Braun dropped out of the race. (I endorsed her.) If you want a particular woman in the White House, you should support her for president.
The other night, while I was watching the History Channel, Laura Bush came on to beg people to help save “America’s historic treasures”. She made it clear that they were rotting even as she spoke, but she did not discuss the reason why this is happening: this Republican Congress and Administration keeps cutting the National Park Service budget.
If Laura wants real impact, she shouldn’t beg handouts: she should walk down the hall and have a talk with her husband.
