MoveOn launched a campaign to censure Bush. Censure is a step short of impeachment which members of the Republican Congress might be willing to take. It implies a formal reprimand of pResident Bush for lying to Congress and to the American people about the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. He is not removed from office. He is called for what he has done.
Bush has himself sought to avoid accountability by appointing the members of an investigatory committee himself! I see this as one more sign of his arrogance and contempt towards Congress and the American People. In his State of the Union and his encounters with the press, he has failed to take responsibility for his statements and the actions precipitated upon them. He continues to affirm what is not true: he lies.
If the American people are left without a mechanism such as recall as we have here in California and if we are stuck with a Republican Congress that will not investigate one of its own, then we the People must press it towards a milder one.
You can add your name to the Censure petition here.
If fear is preventing you from signing the petition, then there is all the more reason to do so: this will make it a true act of conscience.
