square102.gif“Sitting in a restaurant talking about the movie is putting oneself in the position of the crowd shouting for Jesus’s death, the Romans carrying out the sentence, or the apostles who are hiding. Sitting in a restaurant talking about how the movie moved us is not putting ourselves in the position of Jesus, who suffered the tortures, carried the cross, and expired with his hands and feet pinned to its wood while slowly suffocating.”

More of what I wrote at The Gutless Pacifist. Comments are open over there.

Additional articles on Passion:

  • Jenny wrote: “The frustrating thing, at least for me, was that the level of violence, while likely realistic, didn’t really leave me with a particular sense of gratitude and worship for Jesus’ love and sacrifice for me. Rather, it left me more bludgeoned into shock with it all.”
  • Orcinius writes: “The Passion feels like a two-hour version of the drawing-and-quartering sequence in Braveheart (which was long enough as it was, clocking in at about 20 minutes, as I recall).”
