A 9-11 Sabbath

Posted on September 10, 2002 in The Home Front

I intend to observe 9-11 in a manner like prayer. From midnight Pacific time until the following midnight, I shall watch no televised broadcasts, read no newspapers, listen to no radio broadcasts of any kind, read no mail (including email), chat with no one on IRC, and visit no websites. I shall use my phone only for emergencies. All my mailing lists will be set on moderated status. I ask that my readers refrain from making comments during this time period.

In the past year, we have rushed to solutions that erased the freedoms we supposedly fight for during this war on terrorism. I cannot control the actions of others, but if others choose to observe this sabbath and spend the day in contemplation, seeking wisdom instead of allowing themselves to be injected with the rapidly deployed formulae of the hour, I think they and our nation will profit by it.
