Christian Commercialism

Saddleback Community Church dutifully passed out tin signs commemorating 9-11 to its members. They soft-pedaled the self-publicity more than they had the last time when all the members had “God Bless America” stuck in their front lawns or beside potted plants. Fewer people put out these signs. Perhaps the Church asked for a larger donation. Perhaps the fashion is wearing off. Perhaps those who held back had chanced upon Matthew 6:1 and took the words of Jesus to heart.
