A Small Storm

Posted on June 7, 2004 in Weather

square180.gifToday it rained. Not one of those valley-spanning storms which overcapacitate the storm drains and turn our streets into channels for the gravel vomit of the mountains, but a light spotting that fell only on the foothills. It started just as I planned to set out for a walk down the hill and up the Edison Trail. I put my pole away, shook my head, and refilled the bird feeders. Fiona ate sunflower seeds right out of the box. “Why don’t you pick up the ones on the floor?” I pushed her towards the scattered grains. She ignored them and took another chomp out of the box before I closed it up.

None of the cats wanted to go out in the leopardine weather. They squatted on the chairs, watching the mourning doves pecking at the thistle and hemp.
