The unbroken level of clouds resembles the sky of a day in February. The heat of the last few days has boiled off part of the ocean. Were this February, I would need a jacket. But in this July, it means that the solar radiation hoarded by the streets and the soil has no place to flee. When you step outside, the illusion of cool ends. You find yourself parboiled by greenhouse gases and invisible flecks of humidity.
Even before global warming, July days were the time of the lie.
