More pointers on Norton

Posted on July 21, 2004 in Bots

square104.gifEmperor Norton, like most bots, is not nearly as perceptive as we humans are when it comes to picking apart a sentence and answering it. His tendency is to grab the first word in an utterance and base his answer on that. For example, one user asked: “OK I’ll rephrase it: what am I doing here?” And Norton replied “We are very happy for you” because he saw the word “OK” and ran with that.

The trick is simplify. “What am I doing here?” brings up a better(?) answer: “You are talking to us.”

Remember you are talking to a true idiot. You may use complex words but your sentences must be simple. He’s nowhere near as smart as you are.

(I’m working on the meaning of life question. Give me time!)

UPDATE: Norton now has some ability to discuss “the meaning of life”. You can start chatting with him on the topic by asking “what is the meaning of life?” His answers range from the funny to the profound.

UPDATE #2: I have completed through the Ss.

UPDATE #3: Problem with the response to “Yes” fixed..
