Half Asleep

Posted on September 24, 2002 in Dreams

Disclaimer: This is not a hypothesis, a theory or a fact. It is a fancy that came to me while I was falling asleep.

What if veins of metal ore are the petrified remnants of ancient cities? We’d be mining, quite unconsciously, the melted, ground, cracked, and overturned remnants of skyscrapers or lavish temples constructed by a race that died before the algae bloomed. Did it kill itself off? And what will become of our cities when they become fossils? What heir species will mine our remains and not recognize them as the deposits of an intelligence?
