Taking AIML at Emperor Norton

Posted on July 29, 2004 in Bots

square272.gifAs I have said, Emperor Norton screws up. Partly because I am still mastering the syntax of aiml. Here, where I put the wrong tag, Norton spurted out near nonsense:

Human: I am the moon and the stars.

Emperor Norton: When did we make you the moon and the stars ?

Human: It wasn’t you.

Emperor Norton: It looked to us like it was you.

What I am coming to like about AIML is that it resembles html. Therefore, it is not a big jump for me to master the syntax (I’ve been writing my own html since 1994) and I don’t feel talked down to by Wallace and his associates. There is room for adding to ALICE and I watch eagerly for advances. In the meantime, the challenge of making Emperor Norton remains in front of me.

I have only 15,000 lines to cover in the en-brain.aiml file. Then I can fix some of his other shortcomings.

Thank you for talking to him.
