Prophecy can be devastating and bite the recipient in unexpected ways. This reminds me of the twisted ways that the utterances of the Oracle at Delphi sometimes came true with Oedipus running away from his “parents” so that he wouldn’t kill his father and marry his mother or the fateful “Trust in the wooden walls” remark which led to the Athenean victory over the Persians at Salamis.
