A Summary of the Bush Position on the Draft

For those who require a simple, straightforward distillation of Candidate Bush’s position on the Draft (without going into detail about the necessity for more bodies in the field and his multitudinous appointments to local drafts), keep this in mind:

Read my lips. No new taxes.

George Bush Sr.

And what Dubya (his word is as good as his father’s) is saying is:

Read my lips. No draft.

Or as he said to an enthusiastic crowd: “I made it very plain we will not have an all-volunteer army.”
