Season of Darkness and Light

square046.gifTonight a friend told me that she’d written a poem entitled “Suicide” and admitted that she’d investigated ways of doing it. I listened and pointed out the pain and uncertainty. Then I used an argument which I employed successfully in the convincement of one of the most severe depressives that I have ever known: myself. “It is true that suicide ends all pain,” I said. “But the crusher is that it also eliminates all prospects for future joy.”

In this season of darkness when we light candles to cheer ourselves, remember the joy, my friends. Remember the joy.
