End of the Year: 2004

Posted on December 31, 2004 in Attitudes Festivals Reflections

square257.gifIn two and a half hours, Lynn and I will go out on the porch. I will drag the big organ pipe. She will follow me with the thunder tube and, perhaps, a kazoo. We will make noise to scare off the demons of 2004 and let the angels of 2005 zero in on us.

This year ends in interesting uncertainties. I look back to what I wrote last year and feel that the progress I saw continued. There have been trials, turnaways, and lost friends. I’ve begun to discern, however, some constancies in my life — friends who have stuck with me, new friends, improvements in my attitude and my writing, and hope.

Yes, there have been fools who have crossed my path. I got myself into trouble while out hiking in May. My doctors discerned a heart condition that hadn’t been detected before. The knowledge is power. I’ve learned to smile when perfervid fools break off with me and count my blessings in friends who have sought to know me better and be there when I needed them. I’ve learned to smile when bad advice is tendered and appreciate my own wisdom.

And let me end by thanking all who come here to read this blog. Thank you for being here day to day reading what I have to say. And thank you for being there, on your own blogs. Thanks to all who know that the purpose of blogging is to investigate their potential. It’s been great having those who understand this on the journey. I’ll see you again next year.
