Last night’s State of the Union address should have dispelled out doubts that George W. Bush spent the last four years pandering to the extreme right just so he could be reelected and start on his real, more moderate plan. It’s clear that he never had any intention to change. It’s clear that the White House was taken by coup — perhaps twice — so that a decided minority of the nation’s people could reach into the private lives of the rest of us.
Gay, lesbian, bisexual or straight, the message to Bush and the extremists is the same: get out of our bedrooms and get out of our retirement plans. Get out of our lives and, if you stole the presidency yet again, get out of the White House so President Kerry can do the work we elected him for.
The object here is to resolve a problem. The method must be to politically and socially isolate Bush and his hard core supporters. When you see one of those bumper stickers, turn your back on the driver.
