While chatting with a friend just before a DBSA meeting at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Orange, I heard the roar of jets. Out over the parking structure, I beheld them: two Blue Angels screaming low.
“It’s opening day,” said my friend. The start of the season for the California — wait — Anaheim — no still wrong — Los Angeles Angels. We continued to chat until more members arrived.
“What a beautiful sunset,” said one of the women. Yes, a brilliant orange over Orange.
Does the naming of the Navy stunt team as “Angels” constitute blasphemy? We complain about how Muslims speak of their wars as jihads, but we have crusades and we name our war machines for agents of God’s mercy.
I certainly live in a schizoid nation, one that attacks others for its own sins. These are matters of boards and splinters. And this county is the worst sufferer of all.
