I meet my first student later today. No details due to confidentiality except to say that he comes from a Slavic country. I don’t have to teach him English, just improve his comprehension and writing skills.
You might expect to see the prefunctory “I don’t know that I am up to it”comment. I don’t know what I can do with this fellow. What will we read together? It could be brochures, flyers, poetry, application forms, accounting books, medical information, or a book he selects for pleasure. While the instructors encourage us to use children’s books, I think we might have something more in this fellow.
I took a risk in telling them that I am bipolar. Did they give me this “easy” student because of that? Or is he an indication of their confidence in me?
