I want to say that I honor a man or a woman not for what he or she has worn or who he or she has served in what capacity, but for what that person has done. I honor conscience and I honor dedication. I do not honor cowardice in the face of challenges to one’s principles or the sociopathic thrill of killing.
Having said that, I wish to add my best wishes to all those remembered on this day. In doing so, I realize that I will gather weeds with the wheat. Still, I believe that the decent men and women of the armed forces outnumber the wicked ones and always have. By their conscientious service, they keep us safe not only from foreign invaders but also from tyrants at home. We may differ on matters of conscience, but I bow to their thoughtful exercise of their’s.
