Hear that faint hum like a mosquito? Hear it getting louder and louder until you can make out a distinct scream in your ear and that scream is saying “MEME”? Ah, I thought you did. The meme (devised by Frank Paynter) is simple: Describe how you blog.
I blog in the morning
I blog between naps
I blog when the eyes of the sky narrow to a sunset
I blog when the sky is blind
I blog in a swivel chair covered with brown fabric
I blog in an incredibly messy room
I blog beyond the reach of my cell phone
I blog within easy reach of my dictionaries and other reference books
I blog for humor and for gravity.
I blog to have something to do during the hours
I blog against a few things and for many solutions
I blog to get clear about what is important
I blog nude, in my underwear, and fully clothed
I blog with tissues close at hand so I can wipe my nose
I blog on lithium, effexor, lamictal, cardizem, xanax, and all those other things that I am not supposed to mention lest people think less of me
I blog beneath two full-spectrum lights
I blog drinking Diet Hansen’s root beer
I blog eating chips and pineapple and honey crisp apples
I blog while thinking about the movie I just watched
I blog about the front of the cube, the back, and its interior
I blog when there is an itch in my leg and when my knee feels like it is growing a moustache of pain
I blog for myself and for my friends in the Disease
I blog when I have lost track of the time on the clock and I hear the wheels of the patrol car crackling by like bubble wrap
I blog when another blogger makes me sing in delight
I blog
And, having turned the meme into an example of anaphora, I stop.
Thank you to Winston and Tamarika.
