Close to the Heart of the Story

square092In the tradition of true out-of-touch-with-reality journalism, the Washington Post makes it look like the skyscrapers of downtown Los Angeles are going to be cracked and collapse like the World Trade Center as they are gutted by a fire which burns about thirty miles away.

Closer to the heart of the blaze, I see only a faint haze, smell only the slightest whiff of smoke. The planes still fly over, making air strikes. The wind remains calm. And my neighbor, who is a fireman, stayed home today and played with his boy.

People can go home now.
