From Upside Down

square273My recent uploads (featuring rock formations in Capitol Reef National Park) have made me remember just how long it has been since I took a meaningful vacation, one that — at worse — propelled me into a gentle mania which felt like these clouds headed eastward on a Pacific breeze.

I’ve taken trips since this time. The Mexico trip still remains with me. And my journey to Fort Worth where I had the pleasure of meeting Bill of Prairie Point. I’ve travelled to Las Vegas where the crackup that led to my hospitalization began and to Sacramento where I joined other sufferers in achieving a greater understanding of what made us sick and how we could live with a brain that hungered for serotonins, norepinephrins and dopamine.

Utah’s canyons could have helped me just as well. Those places where other people do not tread — where the air takes shortcuts by jumping from sandstone dome to sandstone dome — heal me. I’m overdue. I’m overdue. Please send money.

And tell my friend Gareth to get out here so we can do a road trip together.
