Dogs (for depression)

  • Something is wrong with Master.
  • Let me go over to him and lick him.
  • Hmmm. He doesn’t respond.
  • Whine.
  • Still no response.
  • Lay down at his feet.
  • Maybe I am a bad dog.

Cats (for depression)

  • Something is wrong with Jack.
  • Let me go over to him and look at him.
  • He stares back. OK, I’ll jump in his lap and give him a lick.
  • Still no reaction, but I expected that.
  • Curl up in his lap and purr.
  • Now tell me your problems, Jack. I’m listening.

Cats (for mania)

  • What? I’m getting out of here! To the back of the closet!

Dogs (for mania)

  • Wow! We’re going out for a walk!
  • YEAH! Let’s go fast!
  • You want me to follow you as you jump off that cliff? SURE!
