Conservatives on Dalnet #politics say the darndest things. A pack of RNC apologists flooded the channel after the Wellstone funeral and complained that the media had given three hours and a half hours to a “liberal lovefest”. “We demand equal time!” they proclaimed! “It’s not fair that Trent Lott got booed!”
This from the people who callously tormented the Clintons in their grief for the loss of a friend by spreading manufactured reports of a political assassination and long lists of people who’d alledgedly been killed by the Clintons — among other things? I have little pity for Trent Lott’s hurt feelings after all the hurting he and his cabal did at the behest of Richard Scaife and the RNC.
But then I thought a little more and rose to the occasion. “Equal time? You’re offering equal time? Hell, yes, on behalf of all liberals and progressives I accept! To be kind, we’ll just measure from the year 2000. That way, you will only have to take Rush Limbaugh, William F. Buckley, and the rest of your punditeers off the airwaves until just after the 2004 elections. We’ll give you three and a half hours somewhere in that time. You just give us all of what we are owed in fair coverage.”
The punditeers didn’t have an answer other than the tired shibboleth about the “liberal media” that they’d heard chanted over the airwaves incessantly. They stuck to their self-delusions, hiding behind nicknames which are the antithesis of their actual world views, like caseinpoint, Pragmatic, and Selfthinker.
It was the best laugh I’ve had in a long, long time.
