I evidentally had a lot of money, so I went home to San Bernardino to restore downtown. Uncovered many murals and bas reliefs that had been hidden from public view. All Mesoamerican and made out of plaster or concrete.
I had them pulled into the right places. Invited people to come down and view them. A maze of relief, sometimes open to E Street, sometimes closed off. I asked a woman to tell me what she thought. She reported that she was scared. Through her eyes I could see that some scaffolding was very narrow. When I saw it through the eyes of another woman, it was broad.
I bought the California Hotel and made it a stop for tourists. The restaurant straddled the Spanish tile roof. The waitresses had to crawl from the kitchen across the gables. I had to figure out how to keep the hotel full between tour buses. The people fought for the best rooms and enjoyed eating above the smog.
